Sustainability and Responsibility at Lillbacka

We at Lillbacka continuously take concrete steps towards more sustainable operations. As a Finnish company, many aspects of responsibility and sustainability have been an integral part of our operations since the company was founded. For us, sustainability is not driven by separate guidelines or forced practices β it is built on everyday choices that come naturally. At the same time, we believe that sustainability work is never complete, and we remain committed to continuously developing it further.
Products
Finn-Power machines are known worldwide for their quality and reliability. We manufacture machines with exceptionally long service lives, reducing waste and emissions related to manufacturing and transporting new machines. Our machines also require minimal maintenance, which reduces emissions associated with service operations and spare part logistics.
Designed for durability and equipped with high-quality components, our machines maintain their repeatability for decades. This not only reduces maintenance and spare part needs, but also minimizes emissions caused by handling defective products. Our machines are compatible with bio-based oils, and we have conducted a carbon footprint assessment for our crimping machines. Similar assessments will be carried out for our other products.

Operations
ENVIRONMENT
We manufacture the critical components of our machines in-house, allowing us to maintain close control over quality and production. When sourcing externally, more than 70% of our components come from Finland, most of them from nearby regions. For components sourced outside Finland, we work with European β often Nordic β suppliers. This helps us keep transportation distances short while ensuring consistently high quality.
Sustainability is also reflected in how we operate our production. All our machines are tested using bio-based oil, which has been a significant investment for us. At the same time, we are transitioning our factory heating to environmentally friendly district heating, further reducing our environmental impact.
In our daily operations, we focus on minimizing waste and improving efficiency. Materials are recycled, and production processes are continuously developed to reduce material loss. Our facilities use energy-efficient LED lighting, machines are powered down when not in use, and compressed air usage is monitored on an ongoing basis. We have also completed the EcoVadis Sustainability Rating assessment and continue to develop our performance based on its results.
GOVERNANCE
At Lillbacka, responsible business is guided by our Code of Conduct. It brings together our employees, management, and stakeholders β including suppliers and distributors β under shared principles that shape how we operate. It is regularly reviewed and used as a practical foundation for our decision-making and everyday work.
Wherever we operate, we follow local laws and regulations while respecting local cultures and values. At the same time, we rely on our Code of Conduct to guide us in situations where different expectations may arise. Respect for human rights and a firm stance against corruption, bribery, money laundering, and unethical employment practices are part of how we work every day.
Our approach extends to our partnerships as well. We are committed to responsible sourcing and fair competition, and we aim to build long-term, transparent relationships with our suppliers and subcontractors. Beyond our immediate operations, we also work closely with educational institutions, supporting thesis work and engineering projects that contribute to the development of future professionals.
PEOPLE
At the heart of Lillbacka are our people. Their fair and equal treatment is essential to us, and we are committed to a working environment where everyone is treated with respect. We do not discriminate based on ethnicity, gender, or age, and we take any cases of discrimination or harassment seriously.
To support this, we have structures such as a shop steward organization, a whistleblowing channel, and an equality program in place. At the same time, we believe that the best way to improve is by listening. We actively gather feedback and development ideas from our personnel and involve them in shaping our operations. For example, during risk assessments, each workstation has been reviewed together with the employees working there, leading to concrete improvements based on their input.
We also place strong emphasis on well-being and safety. We provide comprehensive occupational healthcare and aim to support our employees in different life situations with flexibility. Safety is a shared priority: all employees hold an occupational safety card, and additional training is provided when needed.
Supporting growth is equally important. Through training opportunities and internal mobility, we encourage our employees to develop within the company. The fact that many build long careers with us β and often return after time elsewhere β reflects the kind of workplace we strive to be.
